How do I approach this..

I am working on a portfolio right now ( you can see some in the feedback corner) and I have found the artist I want to ask about an apprenticeship. I live in Mississippi and the artist is in Austin, TX. I have contacted her about doing my chest piece and was planning on asking her for the apprenticeship when I get tattooed. This is a few months off because my portfolio is not ready and shes booked. Am I approaching this right? I really like her style of traditional and I like all the work I have seen from her. I think it would be easier for me to learn from someone who has a style that I am really into. There arent any artists around here I would get work from much less ask for an apprenticeship. I am going to fly there for the weekend to get the tattoo. I am from Austin and that is where I want to move. I also want to be a tattoo artist and have a ton of support from my family. So getting an apprenticeship there from her would pretty much be my idea of heaven. Maybe I am worrying to much but I am extremely nervous because I want this so bad. Any advice you guys could give me would be great. Don't worry, I havnt stopped drawing.

I would get tattooed few times more after the chest piece and get your portfolio in check. Then ask her, IF she likes you and you vibe well together that is. Because at this point the portfolio isn't good enough and I can see that you could do better

I would get any required courses done before you approach any shop looking for an apprentiship, in Mass we need to have a BBP, First aid, Cpr/aed and a Skin course to tattoo in a shop. if you state doesn't require it I would take them any ways.
